I really have liked using this toaster about once a week for the past 2 years and 4 months but I am disappointed today because the knob that allows you to choose darkness broke off. We can't see a way to fix it and it's not very usable in this condition. So maybe I should shop for a cheaper toaster?

Slow
Have been using a for a month now. One of the quests I've forever had in my life has been a toaster thats quick and browns very evenly. 2 things sadly missing from my latest toaster investment. Yes it has some good features like the led progress display, easy duration adjustment and lift to see progress. But if you want a quick toaster or even a medium timed toaster you better look elsewhere. Out of many toasters over the years this disappointingly is by far the slowest. If using this my new routine is press the lever down then go and cook the rest of my breakfast so toast is just popping up at the end.

Uneven browning
One side of the bread toasts and the other is pale. Support told me it was designed this was so you can butter the bread. ARG. The inner element doesn't even light up unless the setting is on bagel. If you want to babysit your toast and flip it, this is the model for you. After sending photos to support (including having to make a piece of toast to show this picture!), and a lot of being annoyed, support will send out a new one. I very much hope a new toaster resolves this issue.

I’d like to meet the engineer who designed this toaster.
I purchased this toaster approximately 2 years ago. I paid 3 times the price I normally pay for toasters. First time using, I could not retrieve the toast. It was sunk so low in the center that I had to hold it upside down to get it out. This creates a huge mess of crumbs everywhere. Did someone not test this design? It took me weeks to find an appropriate tong (small enough and not 100% metal) to retrieve my toast, without said mess. The footprint of this toaster is ginormous on my counter. If it’s going to claim so much real estate, it should provide excellent functionality. I regret the purchase. I would never recommend this toaster to anyone. Perhaps Breville should stick to blenders only!

That toaster does have the high lift feature makes it easier to remove small items such as English muffins. We're sorry to know that doesn't seem to have been helpful in your instance. Don't bother! My wallet was toasted.
I've been using this about twice a week since December 2024. For 3 months now and its not great. I use the number 3 setting. I have tried different combos adding the bit more option. I get uneven toast about half time.

Great until it wasn't
Bought this based off of recommendations from many different sources. It worked great for about a month, then the "doneness" became very touchy. It does fine from two to about 4 lights, but then after that the toast just goes straight to burnt. The slider doesn't correspond with the lights. So far the only thing I can use it for is for thawing bread out of the freezer or if I just want warm bread for a sandwich. Disappointing considering how much I paid for it. p.s. Also had to disable my ad-blocker to post the review. smh.
