It’s like magic! Or nearly.
This replaced a Dual Boiler that gave up the ghost after more than a dozen years of service. I decided an update was warranted and wanted something more automatic and the Impress lives up to that goal, and I particularly enjoy the automatic milk frothing and push button ease. If I have caveats it’s that the water tank is small and awkward to fill (compared to the top-pouring convenience and ample tank of the Dual Boiler) and the draining reservoir fills up fast when using the self-cleaning frother.

Amazing coffee made simple
This machine makes incredible coffee easy. Set up is simple and easy to use. After alot of research I'm happy I landed on this machine. The only complaint I have is there is no button for Ice Coffees

We are not impressed…
We purchased the Barista Touch Impress just over two years ago and have used it daily. Worked great for most of the time, but there were a couple of frustrating aspects. First, the owners manual tells us not to put the tray components in the dishwasher. However, the components have too many nooks and crannies to clean otherwise, so a dishwasher safe tray should be a must. Strike one. The system allows users to set up a custom brew, name it, and save it. Great idea! Except the system will not save whether you are using the small or large filter. This selection is simply the press of an icon on the screen, so I don’t know why this cannot be saved. Strike two. Just before we hit the two year mark the milk frother stopped working. Support walk us through certain steps a couple of times, but that did not solve the problem. Breville quickly mailed a box to send in the unit for repair, which was accomplished quickly (and appreciated). Upon receipt of the repaired unit, the milk frother once again worked. However, in the repair process the grinder stopped registering whether it had ground enough coffee beans and would constantly overfill or keep telling us more was needed even though the filter was full. Support again tried to walk us through a fix, but to no avail. Strike three. This week, when the screen told us to clean the milk frother tip we found the repair group had screwed the head in so tight that it could not be removed. Strike four. This could be a great machine (coffee tastes great), but too many strikes to recommend.

Not sure
The jury is still out. I feel as though the machine has some slaws. The self tamper doesn’t always tamp as needed. The espresso-shot flow is not always consistent. Need more than 30 days to decide if it’s a good fit which is all they allow especially at this price. Don’t get me wrong it is a nice machine, but is it worth the money.
