I’m a big fan of the Forest Oakmoss Absolute.
I typically gravitate toward fresh, crisp scents and white florals, and to be honest, I’ve never been particularly drawn to Lafco candles. While their fragrances were pleasant, they never felt special enough to justify the price. The glass vessels, though pretty, didn’t stand out to me either. That all changed with Lafco’s Absolute collection—specifically, the Forest Oakmoss Absolute candle. The hand-blown glass vessel in this collection immediately caught my attention, especially the forest-inspired colorway. When Bloomingdale’s ran a buy-more-save-more promotion, I decided to take the plunge. The candle arrived beautifully packaged in a gift-worthy box, and the vessel itself was stunning—though it leaned more brown and forest green than the blue accents I had seen online. Since each vessel is handmade, this variation didn’t bother me. On first sniff, the cold throw was nice but somewhat basic—fresh with a hint of powderiness. I don’t typically enjoy powdery fragrances, as they can lean "old-fashioned" for my taste, so my enthusiasm dimmed, and the candle went into my cabinet. A few weeks later, I decided to give it a try. I lit it while winding down with a book before bed—and wow. The fragrance completely transformed when burned. It’s fresh and clean without being aquatic or floral. Lafco describes it as “the earth in a lush forest after a rain,” and while I can’t say it reminds me of any forest I’ve been in, it’s still remarkable. It’s earthy and green but not grassy, damp without being musty. There’s a subtle resinous quality that gives it depth, and it’s bright and clean without smelling like laundry. If this scent were a cologne, I’d wear it every day. The hot throw is perfect for my 15' x 15' bedroom—not overpowering, but strong enough to enjoy. However, the candle does have a tendency to tunnel, so I alternate between burning it and placing it under a candle lamp. This method works well and keeps the wax melting evenly. I’ve been so impressed that I’ve already purchased three more Forest Oakmoss Absolute candles, as well as one each of Star Jasmine Absolute and Orange Blossom Absolute. The Forest Oakmoss Absolute vessels vary slightly in color—some lean more blue and green, while others have a mix of green, brown, and aqua. On a quick cold sniff, I slightly prefer the Star Jasmine over the Orange Blossom because it’s less sweet, but I’ll review those once I’ve burned them. One final note: While the tunneling can be a bit of a hassle, the longevity and quality of this candle make it worth it. I’ve burned mine morning and night for weeks now, and it’s still going strong. If you’re considering one of Lafco’s Absolute candles, I highly recommend giving them a try—you might be as pleasantly surprised as I was. The Absolute Collection candles are 15.5 oz each, with Lafco claiming a 90-hour burn time, which I’d say is accurate. They retail for $115, but you can often find them on sale for 20-25% off, and occasionally up to 30% off. The price I paid: $86.25 each.

Not What I Expected
The scent is too talcum powder-y for my taste. The notes are not green and fresh.

Unique scent that I love
The glass container is gorgeous, the scent is not, in my opinion, wintery- more of a mossy glen near wildflowers. Great!
