  • About The Fragrance

    When Englishman Edward Foxhall discovered sandalwood on the Isle of Pines, New-Caledonia, in 1840, it was, then, unknown in Europe. By the end of the 19th Century, the noble spiced wood had quite a pedigree: named 'candana' in Sanskrit, or 'sandal' in Arabic, it was used as a precious ointment for the hair and body. A remedy against anxiety, it still billows today, seamlessly embedded in the smoke of Asian incense.

Sometimes you want a big strong dummy

This is a great scent, and the candle is a very big boy. It sort of hits you really hard with the wood, and I am never opposed to that. Diptyque's Santal candle, though, fills a room better, has more interesting notes, and still carries the woodiness that I need. If you are in the mood for an instant gratification candle that is the equivalent of a Marvel movie and not an arthouse film, get this. It's a big, strong dummy of a candle, and sometimes I just want to be held and not challenged.

A disappointment

I'm sitting next to this candle as it burns, this is the second time I have lit my candle and burnt it for about 3 hours, according to Cire Trudon's instructions, and I have a strong sense of smell, but for the love of god, I CANNOT smell the sandalwood! What a waste of money! It just looks good sitting on my coffee table as I work, but it brings me no joy to have spent over a $100 on this candle and its measly scent.

Great scent for sandalwood lovers

It’s too bad that this may be a limited edition item, as the fragrance is fantastic. It’s a lovely take sandalwood, with aromatic spices and a warm woody base. The sandalwood in this smells quite close to the real wood chips I burn as incense. The scent throw is still quite good, although the fragrance might seem subtle when the candle is not lit.

Royal Blue

Cire Trudon needs no introduction. I have my favorites from their offering but the allure of cobalt blue glass with the gold label had me transfixed. The Sandalwood scent is nice and true to form. It has a luxuriously real essential oil smell of the real thing, but the throw of the scent is minimal. Still 5 stars for its beauty and obvious quality.
