Finally found set of classic, quality flatware
Beautiful styling, balance and quality. I bought a new set of flatware for 12 people, too, in the same pattern (been searching for years) and was happy to see V&B offered this serving set to match. I've finally found the classic, quality flatware that will serve me well into the future.

Be aware that they are not made in Germany. They are made in Vietnam. Nowhere in the item description is this mentioned. I returned them.

Disappointed
Although the pattern is pretty, hence the 2 stars, nowhere in the description does it say that they are made in Vietnam. I ordered them thinking that they were made in Germany. If Villeroy & Boch was still family owned, these pieces would have never been made in Asia. Why do companies do that? This is not necessarily an inexpensive set, but I would be willing to pay more, and know that the flatware was fabricated in Europe. In addition the "Vietnam" isn't even inscribed in the back of the handle, but instead it is on the back of the spoon "bowl" and the bottom of the fork's tines. Extremely disappointed. They were returned.

I am a big fan of Villeroy & Boch, so when I was in need of a new flatware set, was happy to pick out a set from here. In the Merlemont flatware, I found exactly what I was looking for. The pieces feel hefty, even in your hand, but not heavy or unnecessarily weighted. Also wanted the length of dinner fork and spoon to be the same. Too many sets have dinner spoons shorter than dinner forks. The knife has a nice grip, rather than being flat. The look is polished and elegant.

Classic & timeless
I registered for this flatware for my wedding because I wanted something of high quality with a classic design that I would like for a long time. I was able to get a great deal by watching for sales at Macy's when buying the remaining sets. So far, I'm very pleased with this flatware - it looks beautiful and is pleasant to hold, not too heavy or too light. As the previous reviewer stated, the dinner spoon is a little large and deep compared to other cheaper sets of flatware, but it's easy to get used to and all of the pieces are comfortable to hold/eat with. So far it has held up fine in the dishwasher and comes out looking as shiny as when I first got it. I looked for a long time to find the perfect set of flatware and this one wins because of the combination of quality, function and beauty.
